Answers To This And Other Questions

Barbara: Found this video that asks “What If Everyone Jumped At Once?”. Examined by the affable host of Geek and Sundry, he answers his question pretty quickly, and then asks—and answers—some other interesting trivia questions (one of which addresses why I keep to my roughly 250 Facebook friends: because if you’re going to be my FB friend, I do want to actually know you in some way (and yes, “knowing” you from the blog does count)!)

  1. Cute video! I mean I didnt understand most of the science stuff...But I did understand two things...

    We are all AWESOME!

And No matter How big our Earth is....Our Existence DOES "affect" it....individually...and UNIQUELY!

  2. here are some random thought as i watch this video .

wow . I am on the second floor of my house right now . if I got down on the floor and made myself smaller i can;t see myself effecting the earth's rotation speed . I presume the guy in this film is thinking we are all the same size and weight . i am a large lady and there are people in the world are a lot less fat then i am , actually if i am being honest most of the people in the world are less fat then i am . would that make a difference to the effect on the earth if we all jumped up and the same time ? everyone on earth will weigh different amounts . how do you work out what the earth weighs . there is not a scale big enough to manage to weight it !

    1. Linda, me too! Had a constant running commentary of reciprocal questions as he did his spiel. And the factoid about the earth - would LOVE see that scale!

    1. Wow! For someone with such strong(albeit ridiculous)statements why do you hide behind Anonymous? Totally inappropriate spot for your rant, little boy.

Ladies, this one, I wouldn't hesitate to delete!

    2. Thanks, Therese, didn't see this until just now. That was so uncalled for, I can't even begin to imagine that he could really think he'd last here very long (published, I mean). In case anyone is wondering, it was a long unabashed blaming of women for every ill that men face. Real men don't blame women, my dear. Real men are honourable gentlemen.

    3. Oops, sorry Deb, that was me (points up). Although I believe you'll agree with my decision to remove!

Lol, I reported the blog to blogspot citing "hate"... I don't actually know if it would be removed, but at least it will be monitored.

Anyone who didn't read it, was spared a very long-winded amount of typed out idiocy.

    5. Oh, Souzan, I didn't even think about doing that! Thanks for taking the bull by the horns. (...Erm... Why does that make me want to laugh???...)

Bahaha, maybe cause he sounded like a bull with no...horns...
      >:)

Fun video, I agree that I didn't follow his reasoning from going from jumping to youtube to facebook...but it did get me to clean out my facebook friends again :)

  4. I'm surprised I had time to watch this because a few weeks back someone (ahem) got it into my head to scan old pictures. I'm now actually trying to do so and boy do I have a lot of work to do. Interesting video anyways but not sure I entirely "get it".

    1. Ah ha!! You're doing it! So great, Erin. Can't wait to hear about (see?) your results.

  5. I didn't get it, either. :D

He says, we cannot really affect it...but then he says there's an equal opposite force? *my brain is melting - it's too hot here*

And what has this to do with youtube? *shrugs*

    But yes...we are awesome! =)

    1. I think the youtube/facebook references are connected to his question about how much we do (Or don't do) as a collective??? In which he keeps reminding us we're awesome!

    2. Ah ok. :) but even if you watch a clip a second or third time it counts. So it's like meeting the same person twice, isn't it?

      Btw I love youtube!

  6. Had wisdom tooth pulled today. So if this comment makes no sense I am blaming it on my lack of wisdom ( LOL they took my wisdom...tooth get it) or maybe it is just all the pain meds they got me on ....High as a kite over here : )
Anyway Love this video. Pure science. That is the whole concept of behind science right? just curious people who keep asking seemingly pointless questions just to see where the answers may lead them.
In my druggy state My first thought when he introduced the topic was "oh this is kinda like that what if everyone flushed the toilet at the same time?"
Watched the whole video twice and see my toilet thing didn't really go but that was still my first thought.......ok I think I am just losing it now.....Man these meds are strong......hope this makes some amount of sense LOL
Ta Ta for now guys : )

    1. Oh, sweetie, thanks so much for that laugh!! Nothing like watching a happy recovery! My favourite thing about people is that "asking questions" thing we do. Even if it's useless or pointless, I just love that process!!!

    2. Hugs, for wisdom tooth pulling! My first two were something else, but the last two: I barely needed any pain meds. :) Try not to talk too much, as then the jaw will be hurting in the evening ;)

  7. I feel the need to get up and jump now! Very interesting (and somewhat mind boggling) stuff. And we get to 'meet' far more people these days through the internet than we would have done without it. :D

    1. And I do still count "meeting" as online connection --IF it's meaningful in some way. ie we communicate with and at least "get" each other.
