But I did. Got up, had breakfast, and my husband and I worked out
together in the gym. Or as we like to call it, the gym of no return. We could
not find it forever and a day. Then after our workout, we could not get out.
They finally put us on the freight elevator to take us to the lobby, gave us
enough food to survive on, and sent us towards are room. Needless to say, the
trek to and from the gym was a bigger workout than the real deal.
Then we met friends for lunch and it was delightful. These are
friends that we only met four years ago in NYC at a lovely little hotel while
we were setting the boy up in his residence. They have become dear friends and
we are inspired by each visit we share with them. Isn’t that great?
Then it was off to the Apple store to get help with my ipad app: Sketchbook
Pro. Waited an hour for my appointment only to be told that it is an app that
has nothing to do with Apple. But the genius who helped (meant to be literal,
not sarcastic) knew the app and steered me towards a youtube help video which I
am about to consume.
After leaving our London friend and my husband, I may have inadvertently
wandered into some stores where purchases were forced upon me. I bought the
best coat that I have had ... since the last best coat I bought. And shoes that
can only be described as liquid metal slide slippers. If only I played the
guitar one would think I was born wearing them. One funky wool vest and a white
smocked shirt later (my weakness)––OH HELL what isn’t?––I was done. But in a
funny little way, my fave purchase of the day was my tiny iphone 4 cover by
Cath Kidston who is so girly, so flowery girly, so “I enjoy being a girly” that that she makes me want to burn
anything brown or taupe. I love her. Love. Her. And her stuff.
Enclosed is the iphone cover. Are you kidding me? Do you
soooooooo get it? Girly London
Bliss!
Oh and by the by, feeling better. Not perfect. But better. What more can
a girly girl ask for?
Deb! I am outta my mind for that iphone cover!! So jeal. But also sooo happy and relieved that you're feeling better. (Of course also am dying to see your illicit new pieces in real life ;) )
ReplyDeleteOHMYGOODNESS I LOVE THAT IPHONE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you are feeling better and enjoying London! I so wish I could be there! :)
That is an amazing IPhone cover Deb. I love it. It sounds like you had a pretty good shopping trip. Wow . Hope you are doing some great shopping and getting to see everything in London . Have fun. Glad you are feeling a little better.
ReplyDeleteYou could take pics of your Iphone cover but not of your shoes or clothes or treasures? What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteDeb! I'm with Madge. When you get back home to Toronto, we need a blog post that's a fashion show of all your London purchases! More Deb wardrobe pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteSoooooooo glad you are feeling better!!! So, so, so, SO glad!!! Thought about you a gazillion times today and prayed oh so frequently, "Dear God, Please heal Deb, and please let her have a good time in London, and please let her and Colin get home safely. Please don't let their plane crash. Amen."
Speaking of prayers, Deb, my father has been moved from ICU to a regular room.
BTW, Deb, if you could please manage to bring back a kind, intelligent, sweet, patient, gorgeous, hot, tall, honorable, single, disease free, straight, highly huggable and snuggly cuddly, really great guy with tremendous stamina and an adorable accent (preferably Scottish), 30-47 years old as a souvenir for me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI know huh????? The iphone cover is soo cute I am afraid it might melt. I actually turned it upside down on the table so I could see it in all it's glory. Yeah the back is much better (she said cautiously) After the work out, I was all pins and needles down the leg and I thought I was in trouble, but it disappeared over the day. I will take a picture of me in new clothes. The shoes will kill you. I fainted twice just looking at them. And Rigel I will keep my eyes open for this young man!!! Also I am so glad to hear your Dad is out of danger. Very good news.

ReplyDeleteand this is the line of the day:
"I bought the best coat that I have had ... since the last best coat I bought."
I know it's only 9:30 am here, but I'm willing to stake my reputation on it. ;)
(*is well aware she doesn't have much of a reputation*)
ReplyDeletelol, Gae!! And I'm with you (both in best line decree and lack of reputation...)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a gorgeous iPhone cover. Makes me want to upgrade to an iPhone 4 (still using an iPhone 3).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deb, for making that noble sacrifice of accepting those purchases that were "forced" upon you. I know it's hard, and it's a burden you must face almost every day, but you handle it with such grace and dignity. :)
And, yes, I love that line about the best coat. It made me smile this morning.
What I also found amusing was the tale of the Gym of No Return. Yesterday, my husband was trying to find the security office at his work - which is at the University. Unlike you and Colin, he was unsuccessful in his Quest for Security. So, I guess security will remain secured ...
It's probably for the best, Jo. Why go to the security office? That many expendable Ensign Red Shirts in one place can only spell doom!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Deb, to insure that it is a substantial enough post with an adequate supply of pictures when you show us your London clothing purchases, you really must go out and do more shopping. Consider it a sacrifice for the blog. Just calculate which costs less: the airline's additional luggage fee or the postage to mail yourself a big box home.
ReplyDelete(Sorry, Colin, to egg Deb on, but the shops in London are so cute!)
I know Gae! I should really walk into the Oxford street Apple store and shout "iphones for everyone!Jo I love the tale of the quest for security! Rigel you have inspired me damn it. I am just going to have to keep shopping!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRigel - my husband had an absent-minded professor moment and lost his backpack probably at the library, but due to the size of the object (backpack), the friendly librarians said to check with the Security Office's Lost and Found.
ReplyDeleteThe Quest for Security is entering Day 2. Husband found out the location (on the university's webpage - deeply buried) of the security office, and we'll see if he'll be able to breech it - especially dealing with sleep deprivation and the fact that it is Morning (Husband and Morning have worked out a relationship where they acknowledge the others existence, but they don't play well with each other...). Let's hope he's successful.

ReplyDelete*Admiral Ackbar voice* "It's a trap!"
When I packed for our 10-day drive through the western provinces I used your method: three colours. Except I don't own enough of one of the colours I chose, and I don't like shopping. However, you gave me a helpful goal, for which I thank you. I packed ever so lightly, and still had room to include my feather pillow in the bag!
ReplyDeleteKate, I'm glad to have given you a helpful goal!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new phone cover! Glad you're having such a great time in London and feeling better. I will definitely be looking out for the new show!!!
ReplyDeleteI must have missed this yesterday, so I read today's blog first. NOW you're talking about my kind of walk around a city. I'm one of those "I need to buy a second duffel bag to put all the stuff I bought on the vacation into" kind of people. I'm glad you made the sacrifice for us. I shall live vicariously through that, the same way I am through this blog.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better!
