Superheroes Come In All Forms

Deb: One of the first things that my husband and I discovered was common ground was comic books and cartoons. And while I was a huge Archie, Millie the Model fan, I was also into Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, and that ilk. So I not only loved this, but was a bit jealous. After all, my girlfriends and I just drink wine and talk about clothes. I need some galpals that are willing to tie on a sheet and bank to the left with me!!!!

And you've gotta check out this link for a very funny look at comic book women and men!

    4. All these hours later, I'm still stuck back on the part when Nathan Fillion is starting to shed wallet, etc. (as though in preparation for stripping down) and takes off his belt. Because, taking off his pants logically follows taking off his belt, right?

Sad but true for my pathetic, frustrated self. :P

Perhaps it's time to watch THAT episode of Firefly again, hmmmm?

  6. One of my favorite teen memories (and perhaps one of the more pathetic ones) was on Friday nights my mom and I would watch the old black and white Superman TV show on Nick-at-Night. We had two favorite, there was one where Superman had to deliver a cream pie to some people in a cabin in the Artic North and another one about a postage stamp that exploded when you licked it. Good times those were!

I knew I loved my Hubby when during our first date we discussed the brilliance of "Weird Al" and one of our favorite movies, Weird Al's UHF.

  7. Molly -

My ex-husband and I met in the back room of a comic/gaming store. We were sitting across a gaming table from each other in a group playing Illuminati NWO. We had both chosen to play as Discordia.

Our first date began with video games at the arcade at the mall. Our second date was to watch anime (Ranma 1/2).

For his birthday the first year we were married, I got him issues of Knights of the Dinner Table. It was still a brand new comic. They were issues #5 and #6.

*sigh* The long gone good times.

    2. Ahh, gaming geeks! We are gamers, but of a different kind - computers! My husband likes some of the online games. Not WoW, but several that are similar, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I'm a Sims geek. Been playing that for more than 10 years now.

My first date with my hubby was a deep discussion of Weird Al, followed by the watching of Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. Second date was to see the Muppet's Treasure Island. How could I not love him after that?

  10. I have to say that I love batman and spiderman. Superman is ok but batman and spiderman kicks ass. Wounder women is cool as well. I always thought she kicked as well. I think the reason I liked her was because she was a women with power . Got to love that . But yeah I'm a total batman and spiderman fan by far

  11. Such a happy nostalgia kick this morning!

Of course, Super Friends was the very, very best.

But, did anyone else watch these when they were wee little ones?

While Wonder Woman was always my very, very, very favorite (ever since I was a toddler watching Linda Carter!), when I was a very little girl (circa preschool/kindergarten/1st grade), I thought Spiderwoman and Isis were the most beautiful women in the world. I was fascinated by them and wanted to grow up and look like them. (Yeah, the blue eyed, toehead blonde beach rat little girl wanted to look like Spiderwoman and Isis! LOLOL)

And I've been to the Batman Live World Tour, which was pretty cool, too (although the voices were dubbed, and that was not sooo great).

  22. Funniest moment from my oldest when she was a pre-schooler, she was angry at me for something and said "I'm going turn into Bruce Banner soon if you keep doing that!" The fact that she said Bruce Banner instead of the Hulk was hilarious.

  27. BTW, if we are gonna have a conversation that in any way includes comic book heroes, I have GOT to mention Usagi Yojimbo. Samurai Bunny FTW!!!!!

  28. When I was a little kid and allllll about Super Friends, I always kinda felt sorry for the oddball, didn't always get included, kind of visitor members of the Justice League.

I always thought that it was kinda unfair that they didn't get treated as awesomely as Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Wonder Twins and Gleep. (Yes, I know there were 2 other kids and a dog earlier, but that was when I was still a baby. I came in during the Wonder Twins years.)

Anyway, I always felt bad that the more secondary heroes didn't get as much attention and credit because they had awesome super powers, too. I always pulled for the underdog superheroes. This guy was my favorite of the secondary League members:

    Samurai:

Not exactly politically correct. But, it was the 1970's.

As far as villians go, that scarecrow dude in the Legion of Doom waaay creeped me out! I didn't like his hollow eye sockets!!!

  29. And, YES, circa kindergarten, I totally rocked my Wonder Woman Underoos!!! :D

I've been having an internet-wide debate for the last two weeks on whether or not Batman should kill The Joker or not (and why, for either argument).

I also used to work in comics - mostly store security, but I helped throw Wondercon a few times before it was bought out by Creation. I was there for the first Image year (dating myself here), and ate peanuts in a bar with Peter David while we watched people on the convention floor go crazy. I got to spend time with Neil Gaiman, too. Great con.

These days, I'm busy counting down the days til May 4th,...

Neil Patrick Harris did say they were working on a script for a sequel to Dr. Horrible. More Bad Horse!

Oh and Catwoman- best villain/heroine ever.
Don't see much love for the Marvel verse tho. My nephew & I would have very intense talks about whether Storm could beat Jean Grey or not. He loved to call me Sher cos that was what Gambit always called ladies. And Wolverine... too bad he never got to see Hugh Jackman in the role- he's have loved him.
