The Dog Park

As we said yesterday, we took our dogs to Pawsway last Friday. Pawsway is run by Purina, but this dog playground/training centre is the only one of its kind anywhere. It is an indoor teahouse/hall-of-fame/shop/off-lead park/agility course. Every day has a different schedule for the pet-owner’s/pet’s need. We went with our friend, Cheryl, and her pooch, Teddy. For Chaplin and The Bairn, it was a chance to get to know each other and socialize. Yes, dogs do need to learn how to socialize. While we don’t have footage of the agility course (where you coax your dog through the course with treats until they “get” it), we do have a bit of their adventure on tape. Bairn is the blond cairn terrier, Chaplin is the white cockapoo in red leather, and Teddy is the black “poo” mix. Chaplin is still a bit awkward, as you will see, poor pathetic little pooch.

  1. aww! That is just great.....what fun!! I think Chaplin is just a gentle peaceful soul, maybe a little insecure :) The Bairn and Teddy are much more outgoing and a riot to watch. They are all so cute and fun to see them socialize! I will have to take Rudy there. Another great thing we learn from you and your blog. thank you,,,,,

    1. Yes, certainly he's insecure when it comes to other dogs (having had a few lunge at him over the years). But I think socializing him should help with that. He certainly had a great time on this day and, btw, developed a MAD crush on Bairn! Jo, you should totally go! Although will say that we go during the "small breed" run. But I think the agility is open to all sizes...

  3. Adorable! Made me a little sad that my poodle Jeter can't romp around anymore but he amazes me every day. He has figured out how to navigate the stairs to the new place just by following the sound of my footsteps. Wish someone could botttle the boundless energy the puppies have in this video : D

    1. We were laughing when Deb got up there -- sadly, the dogs petered out so quickly, they needed the little boost of the Deb "juice"!

    2. LOL! I'm sure we could all use some "Deb juice" now and again to get a little boost - you think you can bottle it?

  6. How adorable, my favorite part of going to the dog park is watching the dogs play together. My parents dog was much like Chaplin the first time I took him to the dog park with me. He's a Jack Russel and the only dog he'd every played with was mine so while he didn't mind the big dogs he seemed confused that there were other dogs of his size.

  7. Looks like it was a blast for everyone and everydog! My dog is shy at the dog park too. We usually have to bring one of her toys and give it to another dog to play with. Then she will play with that doggie for ever! LOL

  12. how sweet . it looks like great fun for dog owners and their pets alike . i love Chaplin, Teddy and Bairn . i send them all a big Irish pet . by the way is'nt barin the scottish term for a young child ?

I wish we had a place like that over here .our council is getting very strict on where they are letting people let there dogs off the lead . dog owners of course are getting rather pissed off about it . when we had our Airedale terriers we used to let them off the lead at the football ground at the top of our road . I don;t think thats allowed now as their is now a playground in the front of it .

  13. Thanks for the comments, guys! And, yes, Linda, Bairn is after the Scottish "wee child", which The Bairn surely is right now!

  14. So very sweet! It makes me wish our dog, Beatrice, ran and played like that. (She's nearly 10 and isn't overly energetic these days.) Thanks for sharing the puppy love! :-)
