Christmas Movie
Deb: Rigel and I share a deep love for the movie The Trouble with Angels starring Haley
Mills and Rosalind Russell. Today's offering is a very short clip courtesy of
Rigel that features Christmas. Although I love love loved many stars growing up
and tried to mimic them (think nine-year-old girl trying to shake it like Ann
Margaret in Bye Bye Birdie), there is
only one I ever wanted to actually be—Haley Mills.
I LOVE this movie!!!! I loved all of Haley Mills' and never missed one. "Castaways" was a favorite, but "Trouble of Angels" had a special meaning in our house because all my sisters were boarders at "The Sacred Heart Convent" in Montreal. They were no angels and got in to all sorts of trouble much to my mother's dismay. I was the young rebel and stayed in public school also run by nuns. This is delightful to see this clip this morning, makes me want to go out and rent some Haley Mills films. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh, Deb.
ReplyDelete*sniffle*
*love*
Mary-Jo I love how you can relate to this given your history. Wow you and your sisters must have had some scathingly brilliant ideas in your time!
ReplyDeleteRigel I bet you actually watched the clip on the blog again! I know I did.
I haven't seen this movie in years. It is such a great one. I too am a big fan of Hayley Mills. Everything she does is brilliant. My dad has a serious crush on her. Even today, if he sees her on the TV, he will rush up and kiss the TV.
ReplyDeleteFun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this movie or the people that were in it but the clip was fun
ReplyDeleteI'm with Lyndsie...never heard of this movie, but the clip was nice. :)
ReplyDeleteDeb - Yup, I did. Twice. :) You're gonna flip when you open the email I sent you late last night. I didn't know you were gonna do this! There's more Rosalind Russell in your inbox.
ReplyDeleteLyndsie and Holly - Y'all NEED to see The Trouble with Angels! It is so, so, SOOOO funny and very sweet. Such a good movie!
There was a sequel called Where Angels Go Trouble Follows, but it's not nearly as good at all.
Obviously, I've never heard of that movie (I don't know if there's a german version), but I do love that christmas song the nuns sing...It's a MUST! :D
ReplyDeleteMolly that is so sweet that your Dad will run up to the TV and kiss her!!!!Lyndsie and Holly I highly recommend this film. You will love it. Sixties but still holds up well! Yeah Rigel I totally agree, not good except for Susan Saint James in the sequel. Becki at least you enjoyed the Christmas song. So lovely isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten about this classic. Cute movie. Nice one to watch instead of one of the other Christmas movies which are good, but get shoved down our yuletide throats every year, ad nauseam. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite non-traditional Christmas movies is the 1955 version of "We're No Angels". It has Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Joan Bennett, Basil Rathbone, and Leo G. Carrol, et al. It's the story of 3 escaped convicts on Devil's Island who con a man and his family into letting them stay and work for them. Lot's of witty banter makes this movie a lot of fun. The convicts give the family a special kind of gift... Definitely worth a watch, if you can find it. I think Netflix has it.
...and now, I must go and find my copy of A Christmas Carol, staring Alastair Sim, the one TRUE Scrooge. Sure, other actors performing that role are good but old Alastair WAS Scrooge. None of his performance seemed like acting at all....poor guy. ;)
If anybody knows of any other off-beat Christmastime movies, please do share. :)
HUGS & Ho Ho Ho's,
Karen
Oh, dear. Christmas in the mailbox. The ThinkGeek holiday catalog has arrived. Why do I imagine that in 2012, every cold drink I ingest at home will contain with Han Solo in carbonite ice cubes or frozen Batsignal ice cubes? Kiddo is going on a circling last minute Christmas hints spree. I believe he's started with the Deck the Halls with Sparkly Bacon tree ornament. What he doesn't know is that I already carted his ThinkGeek Christmas order days ago. ;) His Christmas gifts at my house are (if they are still in stock when I get $ on Thurs. and if I don't tweek the order based on tonight's catalog binge): his long hinted for scrolling LED geek messages belt buckle, mini donut maker (although, it's a cheaper one I found locally, not the one from the catalog), and periodic table BaCON t-shirt. Shhhh! Don't tell him! (Had to freakin save up forever! But, his last Christmas from me was all small homemades. So, I wanted to treat him this year.)
ReplyDeleteMe? ThinkGeek catalog? I wish for the Ghostbusters proton pack backpack (squeeee!), the big plush R2D2 with sounds, the giant inflatable flying RC great white shark, the Atari classics drinking glasses, and the Big Bang Theory Soft Kitty lyrics t-shirt. :D
We have a lot of love for ThinkGeek in this household.
But, I'd rather get Nathan Fillion for Christmas/birthday. Please. I'm just sayin'... ;)
I have always loved and admired Haley Mills from the very first movie of hers that I watched in the Bridlewood gym - 'The Parent Trap'. From then on, I was hooked! I haven't seen this movie of hers for years, but you have sparked my interest, so I will make sure I watch it with my daughter one night while she is home from university. Thanks, Deb, for the share!
ReplyDeleteSharon Rogers
Looks like a great movie! May have to put it on my list of movies to watch :]
ReplyDeleteKaren I love We're No Angels" such a great film and perfect for the time. Alistar Sim. No other!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNathan Fillion AND ThinkGeek Rigel! Dare to dream.
Parent Trap Sharon..."let's get together yeah yeah yeah"
Kelly put it on your list for a cosy afternoon. You won't be sorry.
I sure will. Holly and I will soon be off for 3 weeks due to Christmas break. I will definitely invest in some time...i'm sure my parents have seen it!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alistar Sim. (Although I have to admit I love the Muppets Christmas Carol)
ReplyDeleteRigel we are huge ThinkGeek fans here. My sons are making their list from that catalog. I want the Han Solo ice cube tray. That's just so geeky awesome! However, since my oldest son discovered Dr. Who this year and has recently aquired a tweet jacket, he will be getting a red bow tie and fez for Christmas.
Tweed, not tweet. Wow, I'm tired tonight. :) A tweet jacket would be quite funny, though.
ReplyDeleteA Tweet Jacket would be delightful feathery goodness!
ReplyDelete"The Parent Trap"! That's my frame of reference for Haley Mills. This movie isn't my cup of tea, but I like reading about people's memories of it.
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas movie tradition, courtesy of my dad, is "Die Hard." Yeah, there's an odd sense of humor running through my family.
Oh, and my parents also watch "White Christmas" and "Holiday Inn." I enjoy those, too. (Beats the heck out of "Christmas Story, imho.)
