Barbara: My daughter showed me this video the other day—it hasn’t
gone viral yet so chances are you haven’t seen it yet—that her friend took of
her amazing dog, Igby. Sadly, Igby got hit by a car and had to have emergency surgery
to repair the damage to his hips. Turns out Igby wasn’t going to take his
recovery lying down. No, he had other plans for dealing with his bum sitch. If
only we were all so resourceful in the face of adversity!
Aww, Igby you rock! That is an awesome dog. Don't let those stitches get you down!
Ah, bringing your pet to the vet is always so nerve-wracking!
Although I "only" have two bunnies, they have been in a lot of trouble.
My girl (Julie) had to have castration, because she was pseudopregnant(?). She had to wear a plastic collar like Igby, and she could hardly eat and clean herself...but she soon found ways to manage her situation. Adorable.
My little boy nearly died three times. First, he got caught between the bars of the "cage" (I still can't believe that his head fit between those bars! It was a horrible sight). Then, he had problems with his stomach (you know, bunnies eat and poo. If they don't eat they can't poo, and that's really bad). And last thing was: problems with his teeth. He couldn't eat anything...
I chose the name Lucky for him. Think it really fits!
I don't want to know how much money we spent on those little thing (it's not important anyway), and I don't know how many tears I cried....
Important thing is: They make me soooo happy that it's all worth it. And if they fight to live, I will do anything to help them.
Oh, Becki, so sweet. And so very tenacious! I am very happy that your lucky Lucky came through every one of these crises with flying colours. He's lucky to have you.
Hey Becki...they are absolutely adorable....especially the yawning one.....!!!!! And I saw you video on the last post....man you are really talented.....the splits were amazing....!!! :) xoxo
Ya know when I read 'hit by a car' I went AWWWWWWWW.....but After watching the video...All I really wanna say is "HATS OFF TO IGBY"...man look at that little things spirit...and I swear to god....I know this 100% that that cute little animal mustve healed faster than anyone can ever imagine....towards the end of the video it even tried to use the bandaged legs....OMG I mean 'GET OUT'....its 'GET OUT' AMAZING..yeah PERFECT PERFECT way to describe THIS....lol!!!!!..Seriously if I take a look at it....I dont think it ever minded getting stitches.... It Took it so amazingly..My aunt had a cat who had a similar incident but in her case her legs were sedated...and she was running like she was drunk poor thing...but she didnt stop running unless she could feel her legs...Animals really are strong spirited...Its us...we get really tensed for them....and by doing something like this they give us a clear sign that says "Dude...I'm good..don't worry"!!! Love xoxo
i volunteered with an animal rescue organization between autumn 2010 and summer 2011. i have seen my fair share of 3 legged dogs but never a dog who learnt to walk on his front paws . his sense of balance must be amazing . igby is cool . was the damage permanent to Igby's back legs or just while healing from the operation ? the thing about animals is they face things like loosing a limb or a sense with less mental anguish then humans do , they just get on with living . not a bad lesson for the rest of us !
It was just the healing effect. In fact, my daughter's friend joked that when she first saw him doing his handstands she "regretted" all the money for the operation. That said, she did have to make sure Igby learned to walk properly again and to use those back legs.
BLESS HIS HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Animals are so wonderful; their strength and spirit (and LOVE) can completely change your life! :)
One of the many reasons why I love animals. Sometimes I feel like animals understand us more than any human ever could. Half the time they don't even say a word. :)
oh this is so adorable!! love how Igby just up and found a new way to walk while he heals : ) I am still in aww and smiling like a fool from watching this cute little guy!! I agree that it is the poodle in him. My dog is half poodle but she invents ways to do as she pleases too. Molly (my dog) is only 20 pounds so she can fit through the gap in our fence between where the gate closes and the fence starts. We placed a box in front of the gap to stop Molly from just walking out of the yard. Once Molly jumped up on the box to try and get to us kids in the front yard. She then was able to use her nose to lift the latch and swing the gate open! We were amazed she just jumped up and imediently began to use her nose to flip open the latch. Its like she knew how to do it the whole time but was deciding to humor us and stay in the yard. It only took her like 20 seconds to come and join us in the front yard!! So we then put a lock on the latch so she couldn't just lift it open, but then she just jumped up on the box and wiggled through the gap and jumped down. Another time she just pushed and dug at the box until it was clear of the gap in the fence so she could just walk through. : ) We now have no box and just have a sort of silent agreement that with Molly that she stays in the yard : ) It has been working so far : )
Oh Igby! How adorable! Animals seem to be so much stronger than humans sometimes. That little dog was so intelligent, using those strong front legs to carry him where he wanted to go. So sweet. "Extreme Poodles!" Loved it!
Aww Igby that is so cute. I wish we people could learn to deal with adversity the way so many animals do. I have a poodle named Jeter and he has lost his vision in one eye but he manages just fine. I have a menagerie of pets of all kinds many of them rescues. Proud to say my kids as well are huge animal lovers.
Wow! Igby is a resourceful little devil, isn't he? I was waiting for him to slip on the snowy/icy path, but he managed quite well. The music was a great soundtrack, too. It directs the mood to being happy and proud of the pup, as opposed to sad that he had to go through the surgery and everything.
We had to put down our cat Figaro at the beginning of the month. That was a tough one. Today, I brought our (second) diabetic cat, Fluffy, in for a blood glucose test. At the same time, I picked up a box containing the first cat's ashes. One interesting visit. Pets can create so many emotions in their humans that we'd never expect.
Aww, go Igby! As a zookeeper, I see a lot of amazing behaviour and courage in the face of adversity. We could definitely learn a few things from animals! :)

Thank you so much! :)
DeleteI love my bunnies. And it's so sad that most people keep them in tiny cages and alone...but they need a partner and space.
Lucky is from the animal shelter. It was love at the first sight...how we got him was luck, too. *hehe*
@Shalaka
I love yawning rabbits, they look like little monsters. :D
Thank you! I try to practice as often as I can. :)

Yup, we worry so much about our "babies" that we forget they can surprise us with their spirit and strength. Igby just blew me away!
