Empathy: Pass It On

Okay, everyone, thanks to much encouragement and despite a great fear-of-the-unknown, Deb and Barbara have finally joined Twitter!! Check out our sidebar link––and please join us in the Twitterverse (although how in hell we will be able to limit ourselves to just 140 characters is anybody's guess)!

In light of yesterday's post, here's a great video that reminds us just how important empathy is to our evolution. Don't be scared off by its length, it is really fascinating (and, if you've already seen it, definitely worth a second look). Would love to hear how it resonates with you!

  12. We should send this video to Mitt and Newt.. they'd pop blood vessels in their heads and die in reaction to being asked to feel empathy for everyone in the world. Oh, wait. No we can never let them see it because they would pop blood vessels in their heads and die in reaction to being asked to feel empathy for everyone in the world. Oh great, my empathy has saved them. My head hurts from being stuck in a loop. Okay, reset. Teehee, that artist liked drawing penises. *giggles* Little penises. Damn I need to change my allergy meds. Ignore me and go back to your important spreading of knowledge over your followers while I just sit here and try to catch my thumb.
    ;)
HUGS (and a noodle for Dawn...inside joke)
    Karen
P.S. What happens if I manage to catch my thumb? I know if you kiss your elbow you'll turn into the opposite sex. I don't wanna do that. I like knowing where stuff is and being able to control the Terminator (tv remote). ha. Loooooopy today. sorry... ;)

  18. I've had a twitter for ages... :) It's fun, but sometimes difficult to keep track of all the tweets.
Followed you. My name is: becki2412

Watched the video, too. Was a little bit difficult to understand everything, because he talked so fast.

It's a very interesting thought. And it would be great, if we can overcome our inner borders, and accept that we are all humans (no matter if you're black, white, green, male, female, old, young, sick, gay, Christ, Jew, Muslim...blabla).

But I think it's difficult, because you can't just treat everybody equally. What about the "bad" people? Of course, most of them do deserve a second chance, but terrorists, dictators, persons, who don't care about others, and kill & abuse people coldblooded, cannot be part of a peaceful society.

Although we are all humans, all part of one world, we're still individuals...

Maybe, if we stand together, we can try to find solutions, but I guess there'll always be people, who won't fit in.

I hope you could understand, what I was trying to say...(We should speak one language *lol* would be so much easier! I tried to start learning Esperanto, but gave up, because I was too lazy).

  19. You make a great point, Becki, about "bad people" and "bad ways". I think what I believe is that the more we absorb the fundamentals of empathy, the more we pass that around the world, the more people might do right instead of wrong. And those who do wrong because they "can't help it", well, I believe they're in the small minority.

    1. And, wait -- Esperanto??? Good on ya!

    2. Saluton! Barbara estas mia amikino. :)

This would be wonderful. I - for myself - can't understand why people would hurt/kill other people on purpose. I could never do that...

  20. I extended my empathic embrace by following the two of you on Twitter. Thank you for sharing that video. I hadn't seen it and it does resonate with me. We've been talking about this at our house regarding how we're wired or not to react to certain things in certain ways, to hold certain ideologies, etc.
